The Baker-Cook Lab

Dr Baker-Cook’s research focuses on gaining a deeper understanding of poultry behavior and utilizing this knowledge to investigate and improve poultry welfare and management. Specific areas of interest include the early-life experience and its impacts on immediate and long-term welfare, humane euthanasia and stunning, and developing methods to assess and provide positive welfare.

We are seeking dedicated postdocs, graduate students, and student researchers at all levels. Prior experience working with poultry is not required, but an enthusiasm to learn new skills, and the ability to work as part of a team is essential. Find more info about applying here.


Dr. Bethany Baker-Cook, assistant professor at Auburn University, became an applied ethologist due to her long-life compassion for animals. Her research integrates behavioral and physiological measures to evaluate how management practices across different stages of production affect poultry welfare. Through this work, Dr. Baker-Cook aims to make a lasting, positive impact on the treatment of animals within agricultural systems.
